At the opening day yesterday, Color Hybrid, the world’s largest plug-in hybrid vessel, was appointed Ship of the Year 2019. The award was presented by HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.

With the battery package charged from shore to a maximum capacity of 4.7 MWh, Color Hybrid has an electrical propulsion range of 12 nautical miles. Compared to traditional ferries of the same size, fossil fuel consumption can be cut by 20 percent, and CO2 emissions by as much as 33 percent. Maybe most importantly, NOx emissions in port areas can be eliminated altogether.

Color Line Group CEO Trond Kleivdal said in his speech that the construction of this vessel is in line with the company’s ambitions for further development of sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions for Norwegian shipping. Both Kleivdal and Gunvor Ulstein, CEO of the Ulstein Group, emphasized the importance of the Norwegian maritime cluster.

The maiden voyage from Sandefjord in Norway to Strömstad in Sweden is scheduled to take place on 26 July.

We congratulate Color Line with the new-build and the award, and look forward to installing Star software on board.

Today, on day two of Nor-Shipping, our booth has been visited by, among others, a delegation from Maritime Bergen.
